You know when you see a picture and you wish you could jump into it, morph the experience into your life. This picture, of artist Helen Frankenthaler does that to me. I want to be lounging on the canvas with her. I want her studio! I want to meet her and ask her questions, give her compliments. Like, how does it feel to be amazing at what you do?
Imagine inventing something? Well, Helen did. She invented the "soak-stain" technique, in which she poured turpentine-thinned paint onto canvas, producing luminous colour that appeared to merge with the canvas and deny any hint of three-ddimensional illusionism.
